I have been watching BSG though I didn't find it as compelling as Firefly. BSG lacks consistency in some respects, tries too hard to raise a big moral issue of the week which is always a bit too obvious, but it's fun and exciting. Star Trek like BSG exists in two versions though the first version Star Trek is much better known than the original BSG. I've seen a number of episodes of both versions of Star Trek but never become a major fan. I prefer Next Generation, partly because I find Picard more likable than Kirk. Wheon makes it clear that Firefly/Serenity are in some ways the antidote to Star Trek. The Union in the Verse is the equivalent of the federation in Star Trek. Star Trek does represenent liberalism of a very statist and condescending kind, and liberalism of the left kind. Though there is supposed to be a dilemma about how the crew of Enterprise deals with new civilisations, basically there attitude is that of colonial explorers. Next Geberation makes a clear distinction betweent he state directed noble mission of Enterprise and the shifty untrustworthy Ferengi. The choice of the name of this race is interesting, Ferengi is how Muslims referred to Crusaders as they regarded them all as Franks (French). Though the Ferengi characters can be likable again they are viewed as a colonialist might regard local traders. The crew of Serenity are in some ways the Ferengi of Next Generation. As with BSG, Star Trek, for me, goes in too much for the grindingly obvious moral dilemma/lesson of the week and lacks the rich interweaving of themes, action and character development to be found in Whedon. Star Trek is important, but I find Firefly far better, such a shame it was cancelled so quickly, there was several series of great stuff just waiting to come out there.Barry Stockerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13122550229361144310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1833216251981651097.post-5523013161315801642008-03-24T23:29:00.000+02:002008-03-24T23:29:00.000+02:00I read on www.tv.com that Joss Whedon was on the p...I read on www.tv.com that Joss Whedon was on the point to directed one episode of "Battlestar Galactica" but the task to direct the Dollhouse episodes make this desidarate inaccesible. What is your opinion about this TV series? About the model of society presented in the BSG compared with those presented in Star Trek or Firefly?Donkeypapuashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12442308981242649397noreply@blogger.com
