The entry below is a lightly corrected version of a comment I posted in The Guardian in response to an article by Bülent Keneş. Keneş edits the ‘liberal Muslim’ daily Zaman which has an English language version. My post did get some favourable reactions from other posting comments and got a high ranking for recommendations. A Turk based in California was kind enough to say it should be published in a US newspaper. I don’t think that’s realistic but I’m giving it a slightly wider audience by posting it here.
